When my husband and I found out we were having a baby girl we wanted to choose a name that wasn’t very common but also had a timeless sound as well. We searched for months and could not find the perfect name that had such a ring to it. One afternoon we were sitting around watching a documentary on old timey entertainment. You know, ventriloquists, freak shows, etc. I became transfixed on the word “vaudeville.” It’s such an interesting word and holds a certain 20th century antiquity to it. Not thinking much more of it I put it to the back of my mind.
When our daughter was born we still hadn’t really settled on a name and the clock was running down to the wire. Holding her in my arms I looked down and the word vaudeville came back to my head for whatever reason. Suddenly it hit me, Vaudene. It sounded so beautiful and carried the air of a whimsical time behind it. My husband immediately loved it and we settled on the middle name of Rose after my mother. It’s been years since we chose the name and we’ve never come across another Vaudene in all this time.
